Woofquackmoo Lives Again!

If you are on or around the web doing work for other people it is really easy to let your site slide. In the autumn changed ISP to a shared ColdFusion server with HostNexus.  I always want to keep up with standards, new techie trend and do cool stuff on my site. Unfortunately, sometime my priorities are disrupted by web stuff I do for other folks. Currently I am waiting for branding clarification, but until I am final told how to refer to myself I am a certified Macromedia trainer and developer (Possibly this will be a motivation Adobe to filter down the naming conventions.) The clarification is required because as of the approximately the 15th of December 2005 Adobe bought Macromedia. I think this is a very positive thing for both companies.

What I should have been Blogging in 2005.

In the last few months I have been involved with several different projects;

  • Developing Web Services with ColdFusion
  • Working with FlashLite 1.1 & 2
  • Developing a Flex Site
  • Training most of the new MATP courses
  • Presenting at Max 2005
  • Writing for the Adobe site
  • Beta testing a new course

Some of these projects I cannot really talk about in too much detail, since as policies I now do almost all of my work under non-disclosure agreements (NDA.)  While the reasons are complex, most of the time there is a North American partner involved and this is their normal procedure. Some of the working I am doing involves Adobe and their training partners which is automatically covered by NDAs.

Let’s get to the stuff I can talk about. One of the key motivations for getting my site up and running again is an article on Contribute, CPS and Contingency Planning that will go live on the 3rd of January. I hope also be doing a short article on FlashLite 2.0 soon.

I have spent a few recent nights working on the new FlashLite 1.1 developer exam. I can’t provide any details on the exam, I think folks planning to take it in Q1 2006 should put in their development time now. There has been a lot of flutter on the FlashLite lists about the availability of the FlashLite 2.0 player. My interpretation of the phones currently on the Adobe site indicates that there might be a regional split happening between APAC and EMEA with new technologies in Europe taking the multimedia lead away from Japan and Korea.

Building my list of things that cannot be done on the Web. Somethings you cannot do on the internetWhen you live a web centric life, it is always easy to forget there are still many things you cannot and probably should not do on the web. With the reasonably good taste parameters of this cartoon please share your ideas about things that probably should not be done on the web. Who knows you might get a mezzanine funding round for your idea.

Dates and Time in Flash 8 Technologies.I have recently been coding a personal travel information manager (PTIM) in FlashLite 1.1 and it has occurred to me that the date class, date methods and date functions on all of the platforms Flash supports through version 8 are a bit awkward. I hope to put my PTIM  on this site for comment and download in a few weeks. I also will provide some of my notes that I have jotted about the weirdness of working with date resources in Flash.
